Seasons of Life Mosaic
Mosaic installed at Shotwell & Cesar Chavez, in the Mission district San Francisco. The 40’ artwork adorns the facade of a new affordable senior housing unit, working in collaboration with Precita Eyes Muralists & Meda community development agency.
The theme we were provided with was ‘Aging Gracefully,’ so our team utilized the 4 seasons as a way to depict the passage of time through one’s stages of Life. A summer sun & cacti blazes from the left , with life-force represented by healthy birds and plants, leading into a Marigold’s petals whisping away into Autumn, as the colors change into earth tones. Eventually the petals transform into wings of a Mission Blue butterfly, as frosty blues of Winter take hold. Our beloved butterflies burst forth a rainbow of stained glass that guides the mosaic into Springtime, with rolling waves and vibrant colored hills bringing new Life into the narrative. Large rings cross and intersect throughout the mosaic, representing the interlocking, interconnected cycles of Life.
